    this post about rendezvous (which is as amazing as vanishing point or ronin or the french connection when it comes to car scenes on film) reminded me of the fact that many, many years ago i worked on one of the bmw films. ang lee directed (quiet and solemn and directly brilliant), and clive owen stars (who was pretty much unheard of here in the states at the time) in this short. much of what i remember is helicopters buzzing over red hook, brooklyn all night long and a union puppeteer rocking the car with a two-by-four during the greenscreen c/u shots.

    …not bad to work with the likes of them. and BMW Films itself was a bold and oblique move for any company. the idea no doubt was inspired by lelouch’s dash to Montmartre (similarly 8min, among other obvious elements)
