On August 21, 1968 the Soviet Union and the entire Warsaw Pact (minus Romania) rolled into Prague to put a violent end to a set of reforms underway.
A young Czech photographer named Josef Koudelka captured the decisive moments of that day and smuggled his negatives out of the country to Magnum Photos. They were published in The Sunday Times Magazine under the initials P.P. for Prague Photographer.
A book of these photographs, Invasion 68, was published this month. See Magnum Photos for more bio/portfolio.
