Consumption alert: slouching towards audiophilia
music may be an integral part of my life, but i’ve always been cautious not to become one of those purist audiophiles with a tube-based audio amplifier in the bedroom. however i just purchased something they would approve: these headphones.

they are described as dynamic open-air, supra-aural, high-fidelity headphones. i may not know what all of that actually means, but what i now hear, and can appreciate, is a substantial difference in quality. layers upon layers of sound in my music collection are now audible. with apple’s earbuds it’s as if i’m listening to music coming through the walls of the house next door. with the Grado SR80 headphones, i’m now listening to the music in my own room. and i’m walking the streets wearing these (cord’s a little fat and long for comfort). the store clerk recommended this model for use with ipod/computer.my new retro-fab and audio-geek look is made possible by Grado Labs, a 50 year old company based in Brooklyn (sunset park). 50 years of making headphones, it shows.
deduct $100 from checking.
